Other than her name, Lucky is pretty unremarkable and flat. The narrative is told from Lucky’s perspective, who I’m pretty sure is only called Lucky because of the puns. I read somewhere something that I feels suits this situation perfectly a tragic backstory may explain someone’s actions but it doesn’t excuse them. But of course, we’re going to be fed some exposition about his tragic past so we think that it’s all perfectly justified. He’s dark and mysterious and treats everyone like crap. I think the author tried too hard to try and make Zane lovable. Lucky may believe it’s all part of his charm but I’m telling her to run like hell. It doesn’t stop there Zane becomes possessive over Lucky, even before they’re sleeping together. You may think that’s considerate, but thinking of how many times he’s appeared at the diner where Lucky works… there’s something seriously wrong with that guy.

First Zane stalks Lucky, under the pretence of making sure she’s safe. Perhaps if we were watching a movie version, I might agree, but when reading about him I just found him darn creepy. Some people say that Zane is swoon worthy. Although the idea of someone swearing off dating people who weren’t looking for a relationship but falling for someone who doesn’t and then vowing to change said someone, has been done many times before, I suppose I just wanted it to work this time because I like the idea of ‘the last boyfriend’. I’ll confess that I allowed The Last Boyfriend to sweep me along for a while. Zane has been frequenting the diner at which she works every Friday night with a different girl, but perhaps Lucky can change that. Most importantly, she wanted him to have the potential to be her last boyfriend he had to be marriage material. After a bad break up, Lucky made a list of criteria she wanted in a man.
